Pool terrace
A stone pool terrace and fire pit, dug and laid in five weeks.
Sample project story, written for this conceptWhat they asked for
A terrace wide enough for a long table, a way to sit outside after dark, and pool coping that wouldn't burn bare feet in August. The old patio had sunk at one corner and held water against the house.
We started where the old one failed: the ground under it. The new terrace falls away from the house, sits on a deep compacted base, and drains to the lawn.
- Terrace across the back of the houseThermal-finish bluestone, wide joints
- Pool copingLight granite, eased edges, cool underfoot
- Built-in fire pitLined ring, set 20 feet from the house
- Step down to the lawnTwo full-width slab steps, even risers
The terrace at dusk
Shot at the hour the owners use it most. Stone reads best in low light, so that's when we photograph it.

- Weeks three and fourBluestone set on a screeded bed, coping cut and fitted around the pool.
- Week fiveFire pit and steps built, joints filled, site cleaned, last walk-round.

What the owners said
We eat outside most nights now. The corner that used to hold water is the driest spot in the yard.
